“Staying silent is like a slow growing cancer to the soul and a trait of a true coward. There is nothing intelligent about not standing up for yourself. You may not win every battle. However, everyone will at least know what you stood for—YOU.” ―Shannon L. Alder

You Are Most Po…
You Are Most Powerful…
“You are most powerful when you are most silent. People never expect silence. They expect words, motion, defense, offense, back and forth. They expect to leap into the fray. They are ready, fists up, words hanging leaping from their mouths. Silence? No.” ―Alison McGhee
A Blessing…
A Blessing
“For Equilibrium, a Blessing:
Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore,
May the relief of laughter rinse through your soul.
As the wind loves to call things to dance,
May your gravity by lightened by grace.
Like the dignity of moonlight restoring the earth,
May your thoughts incline with reverence and respect.
As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.
As silence smiles on the other side of what’s said,
May your sense of irony bring perspective.
As time remains free of all that it frames,
May your mind stay clear of all it names.
May your prayer of listening deepen enough
to hear in the depths the laughter of god.” ―John O’Donohue
He Who Does……
He Who Does…
“He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words.”
―Elbert Hubbard
I am a firm believer in not responding to people when they’ve shown me what they truly are. It lowers me to their level, a place I do not belong. Some people believe that if you don’t respond, and you’re silent, that it means they’re right. Sometimes it does, it depends on the individual situation, but if I don’t respond, it probably means something else entirely. Something I’m way too polite to say at the moment.
Writing…
“Writing is a struggle against silence.” –Carlos Fuentes

“I don’t want to be married just to be married. I can’t think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can’t talk to, or worse, someone I can’t be silent with.”
―Mary Ann Shaffer, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
When I found this quote I immediately heard my mother & Grandmother in my head saying “If all your friends jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, does that mean you would do it too?” I’ve never been a good “follower”, I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drum, and I most definitely have to be the drummer as well.
