Full Strawberry Moon

Full Strawberry Full Moon

strawberrymoon

Friday the 13th may be bad luck for some, for witches and Pagans it’s often considered a magical date. After all, Friday is named for Freyja, a Norse goddess of fertility (sometimes called Frigg). The ancient Egyptians associated the number thirteen with immortality, there were twelve steps on the ladder to eternal life and knowledge; the thirteenth step meant going through death into everlasting life. Upper-class Romans required thirteen guests to be present at weddings as did the Norse vikings.

Finally, thirteen has a strong association with the moon for modern Pagans and Wiccans. There are thirteen lunar cycles each year, and many of us celebrate the Full Moons with an Esbat rite. Thirteen is the traditional number of witches in a coven. You will not see another one of these occurrences until 2049.

Tonight’s Full Moon, called the Strawberry Moon because of the abundance of strawberries around at this time. It is traditional to eat strawberries on this day. If you have a lover or a love interest, give them roses as this Moon is also known as the Rose or the Love Moon. It is the perfect time to patch up relationships, get married, or find a new love. The June Moon is also known as the Honey Moon because it has a slight amber tint to it, and it is also a time when bees are at their most active.

Tonight’s Full Moon also falls on Friday the 13th. This will not be very significant for many, but for the superstitious it can hold a lot of significance and it won’t happen again for another 35 years, so it is very rare.

This Moon is all about balance, as it is exactly the middle of the year. It is a time to ask yourself what you have achieved throughout the year so far and if you are happy with it. Take stock of all you have and all you wish for, and work out a path or a way to achieve your goals in the coming months. This Full Moon is a great time to list what it is you want from life and to work out what you need to do in order to achieve it. Give your message to the universe and let it know what you want. Let your dreams, hopes, and wishes manifest.

The Moon is in the sign of Sagittarius which is a sign of truth, travel, and ambition. Things that were in the dark will now start to come to light, new truths will be revealed. Use the energy of this Full Moon to explore, make travel plans, see people, or talk to people you haven’t seen for a while. Sagittarius Moon asks us to step into a bigger picture, to look at our ambitions and act on them.

This Full Moon will have our emotions on high alert, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. We will be feeling a little fragile at the moment so be kind and gentle with yourself, don’t be to self critical, try to stay positive and think about all the good in your life rather than the bad. There may be emotional desire to pack up and go off on an adventure to distant lands or visit places that bring up sweet memories. The sign of Sagittarius often feels its passion in travel, visiting new lands, and meeting people from other walks of life.

This is the Full Moon just before the Summer Solstice, which is the height of Summer. The earth is full of energy and life. Use these energies to inspire you, be creative and go out into nature for long walks, see the beauty all around you and embrace all life has to offer. Let the Moon heal and energize you.

Have a blessed Full Moon, may the Goddess watch over you.

The Pink Moon

Technically the Full Moon began early this morning (EDT) and the Eclipse is past us, but I thought this info was good to share too.

fullpinkmoon

April’s Full Moon would usually be known as The Pink Moon, The Sprouting Grass Moon, The Egg Moon, the Fish Moon and the Seed Moon. But because this Full Moon falls on a total lunar eclipse, which many will have seen early this morning. it is what we call a Blood Moon. As the Moon gets caught in Earths shadow during the eclipse it turns red. If you missed the eclipse this morning here are some images of it:.http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/04/15/under-a-blood-red-sky/?tid=hp_mm

A lunar eclipse is a time when the Moon, the Sun, and the Earth are all in perfect alignment. Our planet sits between these two great bodies, and we feel the pull of the Moon on one side, with the warmth of the Sun on the other. It is a time when things just fall into place, our minds become clear and we can see what it is we need to see. We will get a moment of pure clarity.

This Full Moon symbolizes ‘powerful endings, closure, clearing out, completion .’ It heralds a time of major transitions. It represents letting go, purging and releasing especially on an emotional and psychological level. Be brave and face death. A new birth is upon us, a collective yearning for something better to arise in our world.

During the Full Moon phase in astrology, emotions tend to be like high tide in the Ocean. Surge of emotional intensity is now possible. There may be a lot more flowing out through tears, sorrow, pain and even joy. Consider the Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Libra a time to restore the harmony and balance on many levels but especially the emotional. Relationship to your emotional self and emotional intimacy with others may be helpful now.

When we experience an eclipse, it is an opportunity for reset. A portal of alignment is created where new influence can take precedence over the old. This is the time to put your gratitude forth for all the many blessings in your life and to clearly speak aloud your intentions and desires to be heard by the universe as we step across this edge to the other side.

We are in a powerful time where we are asked to look at what is no longer working in our lives- where is the old skin stuck and inhibiting our further growth. Where are we surrounded by things, people, situations, attitudes that are actually toxic and need to be burned in the fire, so we can rebirth ourselves like the phoenix does.

This eclipse kicks off a series of Blood Moons called a tetrad, there will be 4 blood moons between now and next year which are spaced out at exactly 6 month periods, which many religious groups have heralded this as an end of days as there 666 months between each one and a verse from The King James Bible predicts: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD comes,” [Joel 2:31] This is not a Wiccan belief however and the world is not going to end.

Have a blessed Full Moon, may the Goddess watch over you.

Willow Full Blood Moon & Total Lunar Eclipse

willowfullmoon415
Dust off your binoculars, or for you serious astronomy enthusiasts, get ready to show off your telescopes – it’s about to be the first eclipse of the year! A total eclipse is when the earth passes exactly between the full moon and the sun. This one will be a bit more rare, as it will be one of a series of four total eclipses without a partial eclipse in between, also known as a lunar tetrad, and lately, what people are calling a Blood Moon.
lunar

The Blood Moon will be visible to the naked eye on at around 9:55 p.m. on April 14th, and continue overnight into April 15th. (If the latter date rings a faint bell, it’s because it also happens to be tax day.) The total eclipse doesn’t begin until 12:08 a.m. on the 15th, moving into maximum eclipse at 12:46 a.m. The whole event will last for about 3 hrs and 35 minutes.

Besides lunar eclipses being a celestial phenomenon in and of themselves, Blood Moon earns its special name due the red color created when sunlight filtered around the earth’s atmosphere hits the moon. The moon will look like your favorite sunrise or sunset, appearing dusty red/orange. It also has a spiritual meaning to some.

The remaining three eclipses in the tetrad will happen October 8th, April 8th, 2015, and September 28th, 2015. All will be visible in all parts of the United States, but the upcoming “ring of fire” solar eclipse, happening on April 29th, is limited to a small part of Antarctica.

In Chinese mythology, lunar eclipses occur because the Dragon, a masculine solar energy, is attempting to eat the moon. To counteract this effect, it was traditional in ancient China to make loud noises (e.g., bang drums) to frighten the Dragon away. As recently as the nineteenth century, the Chinese Navy fired its cannons during a lunar eclipse because of this belief.
In 1503 Columbus’ ships ran aground in Jamaica. During the year that Columbus and his crew waited for rescue, the natives took care of them. Eventually, however, the islanders tired of feeding them. Columbus had an almanac and knew of an upcoming lunar eclipse. Just before the eclipse, he told them that his God was angry and would show them that evening. When the moon was eclipsed that night, the islanders promised to continue providing for them, if Columbus’ God would restore the moon.
Various traditions credit lunar and solar eclipses with affecting human and natural events. Tibetan Buddhists say that during a lunar eclipse, our actions, whether good or bad, are multiplied one thousand fold. Astrologers say the occurrence of an eclipse can trigger wars, political events, and natural phenomenon (e.g., earthquakes).
The Christian Bible points to a possible lunar eclipse as an omen of the end of days.

The Full Snow Moon

14fullmoon

Tonight is The Full Snow Moon (also known as the Storm, Chaste, Quickening or Hunger Moon). It is our wake up call. During this time, all in nature is pure and full of potential. The hibernating creatures are beginning to slowly arouse themselves, quickening their heartbeats, and creeping out of their dormant period. Mother Earth is gently awakening, full of new possibilities. The Snow Moon uses the same force upon us.

There is a gentle pulling upon our consciousness at this time, we become aroused to the latent forces within ourselves – now is the time to turn the mirror in upon ourselves, and see what is reflected. A time to grasp the buds of new paths and ideas, and like nature, be prepared to welcome life anew.

February’s Full Moon is in Leo, this is the sign of ambition and confidence, you should feel a rush of energy and want to get things done. The Leo Full Moon message is to awaken to your heart’s desires and act on your truth, figure out what it really is you want from life, then work out a bold plan to achieve it.

The Leo Full Moon can be emotionally charged. Leo is larger than life. Leo rules big emotions. Leo rules drama. You may feel overly sensitive to the remarks and actions of other people. This Moon can bring out the drama Kings and Queens in all of us. The Leo Full Moon may feel pretty intense. If you like intense, you may well enjoy its spark and energy, but if you’re already feeling somewhat jaded and in need of a rest, it might be a good time to lay low and let the world pass you by rather than engaging too deeply with it.

The Full Moon will be very bright tonight as it highlights our lives and shows us underneath the masks we all wear on a daily basis. This is a time to harness your inner power and your strengths and look to the future, make plans, and think positively. The cosmic message is to balance your heart with your head. Find the middle ground in your relationships. Live from your heart. Yet, be practical in your approach to your dreams and goals. Plant the seeds of fate within ourselves and watch them develop over the coming months.

Have a blessed Full Moon. May the Goddess watch over you.

Full Wolf Moon

fullwolf

Tonight is the first Full Moon of the year. Called The Wolf Moon as this is a time when wolves would howl at the Moon in hunger outside towns and villages. It is also known as the Hunger Moon and the Cold Moon.

This Full Moon could be quite emotional as it is in the watery, emotional sign of Cancer, which is in fact ruled by the Moon. Full Moons tend to bring things to a head and whatever may have been bubbling below the surface over the course of the previous couple of weeks will have a tendency to burst out into the open as the Moon reaches its peak. This Moon could bring up some strong emotions based on old patterns formed when we were very young. Patterns that we keep doing that lead us in the wrong direction, it is time to look at these patterns and try to break them so we don’t keep making the same mistakes.

This is a time to gain control of our emotions, making sense of them and how they might be ruling us. This Full Moon provides us with an opportunity to recognize and release old, outworn behavioral patterns that no longer serve us in our relationships. Dig beneath the surface and discover what holds us back from real trust and intimacy within our relationships. During this Moon it is gently urging us to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and reveal how we truly feel, deep inside. The truth of it, not the sugar coating and to deal with any issues head on.

Use the energy of the Full Moon to reinvigorate and re-energize ourselves. We have a long year ahead of us. Ask yourself what it is you want to achieve. Are you looking for a new job, want a relationship, need money, lose weight, etc? Whatever it is, think about how it can be achieved and think about putting these steps into action.

Let yourself be free to float upon the waters of restoration and healing now. The illumination from the Full Moon in Cancer potentially brings you in touch with compassion and nurturing so that it benefits you and all aspects of your life and relationships. Let the Moons energy heal you and bring you back to what is important to you.

Have a blessed Full Moon and may the Goddess watch over you.

Full Cold Moon

555106_644916588882738_35701945_n

The full moon on December 17th is called Cold Moon, Open Moon, or Big Winter Moon. As the sun sign is Sagittarius (November 23rd–December 21st), this produces a full air moon in the opposite sign of Gemini. Wiccan spells and rituals for this full moon relate to renewing contacts and communication with others by writing letters, placing phone calls, or face-to-face meetings.

This full moon is an ideal opportunity to cleanse and charge your tools for the Winter Solstice/Yule on December 21st, 2013.

This is an especially special Full Moon because it is the last one of this year. It is a time to use the Moon’s light to charge our energies, and ready ourselves for Yule and the coming New Year. This particular full moon will not be boring and will have an unpredictable vibe along with it. What was stuck may suddenly begin to move or shift. If emotions are clogged, they may surface and flow. Allow this. Be as loving as possible with yourself, and others. The potential of the Full Moon in Gemini is to become aware of where you are engaging in dualistic thoughts, emotions, and behaviors on auto-pilot. This may be generating a lot of mental stress and tension plus sending out mixed signals to others and the Universe. Some people may be irritable and cranky. Emotions can be raw and urgent. Breathe deeply. Ground yourself. Keep a sense of humor. Be of good cheer. Be the calm in the storm. Get in the driver seat and empower yourself. Be honest with yourself. Stop arguing for your limitations. Take responsibility for your life. In this way, you can change what is not working. You are the master of your destiny. Take your power back from society and/or other people. Learn from your mistakes. Vow to do better next year. Make a commitment to your success. Be adaptable. Make friends with change. It is not the enemy. Change is your friend. Change sheds the old and gives birth to the new. With Yule and New year approaching look deep into yourself and ask what you want to happen in the coming year, ask yourself how you will bring it about. Make this the year that you make all your dreams come true. The energy from this Full Moon wants you to succeed. Tell the Moon your hopes and dreams write them down on paper and burn them by a white candle. As the smoke drifts to the heavens, the universe will receive your message.

The Mourning Moon

1451967_221435867980409_449350278_n

In November, the Mourning Moon is upon us. It’s also known as the Fog Moon or Snow Moon, depending on where you live. Some Native American tribes referred to it simply as The Moon When Deer Shed Antlers (although in most regions, it’s more accurate to say they’re shedding their velvet – a buck doesn’t usually lose antlers until later in the winter, unless you’re very far north.). In the early Celtic society, November was the beginning of the new year. Why not use the magic of this moon phase to celebrate new beginnings?

Correspondences:

  • Colors: Gray, blues
  • Gemstones: Lapis lazuli, turquoise, topaz
  • Trees: Cypress, alder, hazel
  • Gods: Bastet, Isis, Kali, Hecate, Astarte
  • Herbs: Thistle, betony, verbena, fennel
  • Element: Water

This is a time of washing away the baggage of the past and letting it go. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to focus on the joys of the future. During the Mourning Moon phase, say goodbye to bad habits and toxic relationships, and get a fresh start for the new year. Work on developing and strengthening your connection with Deity.

Happy Full Blood Moon!

tumblr_m9s3sf4YIA1rxkz3no1_500

1382407_250448475104106_675785202_n

Tonight is the Full Moon, known as the Blood Moon because between now and Samhain/Halloween was the harvest of flesh, it was the time when the farming community would slaughter cattle and preserve the meat to last through the winter months. Poorer families would use the brightness of this full Moon to go hunting for their meat. So it became known as the Blood Moon, it is also called the Hunters Moon, the Shedding Moon, or the Falling Leaf Moon.
This Full Moon there is also a penumbral lunar eclipse when the Moon will appear much dimmer and redder than normal. The lunar eclipse will be visible to people living in Europe, Africa, the Americas, and parts of Asia just before midnight GMT.
The Full Moon is in the sign of Aries, making it all about pent up emotions and balance. The eclipse will also have your emotions reeling and will have you asking yourself are you in the right place you wish to be at this time and questioning your current situation.
The Aries Lunar Eclipse requires us to be balanced in our masculine and feminine energies. Masculinity is not better than Femininity. Femininity is not better than Masculinity. We need a balance of both male and female to be whole. This will bring you towards greater self-expression and freedom. You may feel a strong need to stand up for yourself and speak your truth. Let us remember to give others plenty of room to be who they are and speak their truth too.
You are born again in the Aries cleansing fire. Let go of the false self. Embrace who you really are. Be heart-centered. Liberate your mind. This is real freedom.
Lunar eclipses, which have a 19 year cycle, signal a completion and an awareness that could change the course of our journey if we let it. The heart may skip a beat as raw emotions surface now and energies are charged up. This is par for the course. Allow anger and agitations to rise up and clear out, without jabbing anyone with the energy. You don’t have to allow things to become volatile, instead use these emotions to look inwards rather than outwards by blaming others. Take positive action in advance by being responsible for your own emotions and reactions to things. Direct the pent up or stuck emotional energy into organizing, working out, or anything that burns off the ‘gunk’ and exhausts you in a good way.
This eclipse opens a window until November 3rd of a time that supports deep change. The energy of this Full Moon can be a bit challenging if you are not in alignment with what you need at this time. May you finally get the message and leave the past behind, honoring the experiences by making them conscious and giving them meaning. We are on the threshold of knowing things that will alter the course and direction of our lives, and how our minds are able to recognize signs and signals and bring forth messages from the Spiritual realms. This eclipse comes to remind us that who we are is written nowhere, but in our own hearts, and it is there that we will discover it.
This Full Moon, use the energy to heal, healing energies are very strong now, look inside yourself and ask what it is you need to heal your hurt, pain, emotions. Clear your mind of negativity and try to look to a brighter and more positive future in the year ahead, make the decision to make big changes, this Moons energy will help you achieve them. May you have a blessed Full Moon and may the God and Goddess watch over you.
(Text and the 2nd image are fully credited to Wicca Teachings.)
For the record, the eclipse and color of the moon are not visible on the East Coast (Is someone seeing it somewhere else in the world? If so, please send any photos you may want to share.). The moon is bright and high in the sky and is its usual, normal color. Nothing creepy is going on for those of you wondering why the moon can take on a red tinge. I have seen it in past years, but usually there is no change whatsoever in color. In fact, it’s so high in the sky that it doesn’t look completely full and there’s no cloud cover or anything to take away from it. Weird.

Full Harvest Moon + Happy Sukkot!

harvestmoon2

For most of us, the Full Harvest Moon will rise this evening and be as beautiful as most full moons are. Last night was the beginning of Sukkot, a harvest based celebration marking the official end of summer, much like the Fall Equinox/Mabon on Sunday, minus the religious connotations.

With the already changing Fall weather, now is a great time to share a snack or a meal underneath the stars, or maybe even just take a walk and breathe in the crisper air.

Generally, this is the start of my favorite time of year. Not just because I prefer this kind of weather over all other weather, but because it is the lead in to my birthday next month. Under normal circumstances I really get into it, but this year I’m kind of just content to let it pass over. Surviving another year  feels a little trite for me right now. Maybe in the coming weeks I’ll feel differently.

Hope everyone has a lovely view of the moon and a lovely night in general.
