Common Courtesy

Dear Everyone,

I respect and appreciate the fact that you follow me. I would not say that if it weren’t true. However, the latest reblogging craze has been driving me INSANE. It is not any one person in particular, it’s just the nature of the beast, so to speak.

If you take the time to read my About page, there is a disclaimer asking you to check with me first if you’re not sure if I’d be cool with something being reblogged. I don’t mind if it’s a quote or something I have shared for everyone to enjoy, but if it’s a photo I took the time to locate, or one I took myself, then please ask first. If it’s my work, which is 100% copyrighted, ask, because I own the copyrights to my work and the photos I take, and I will not hesitate in asking that you remove it if I have not approved it.

I reblog very little here, but when I do, it’s to show respect to the amazingly gifted friends I have made here, or to share health related stories. If anyone ever took offense to that, I know they would come to me privately and ask me to remove it, and I would, because I respect them.

Please, lets all show one another the respect we’re deserving of.

Thank you,

    • I try, always, to be supremely fair and respectful.

This might offend some people, but none of us wants to see our words splashed across someone else’s blog when they didn’t so much as ask us if it was ok.

  1. I agree, 100%. I very rarely reblog anything myself because I feel like my experiences are different enough from anyone else’s that it would be very difficult for their words to speak for me.

On a minorly related note – you find some of the coolest quotes and pictures. 🙂

    • I agree with you. I don’t think anyone else’s words can speak for me, but can I relate to certain things? Yes.

I am a collector of quotes, I’m kind of obsessed with that. Photos have to have meaning to me, or have to speak to me in the moment. Sometimes they’re not even indicative of a thought or an immediate feeling, they’re just something I felt was worthwhile. Thank you. 🙂

    • Some people agree with me, others seem to be taking a step back. I just wanted to be clear, because clarity is very important to me. For me, it’s like a new form of theft, in a way. It takes a minute to ask. Generally I will say ok, but I still like to be shown a little courtesy. I think people forget a lot on the blogosphere that we’re not all just computers. There are people behind said computers.

      • You hit the nail on the head. If the reblogging craze continues we’ll lose the originality because the ownership will get lost too. In my opinion.
        Thanks for a great post.

      • Thank you for your support Susan, it is greatly appreciated. I’m still trying to figure out how to handle the few comments I got that made me contemplate my own originality. Really?! When anyone can write like I do, they can be my guest! They can also do my job for me, I’ll just sit here and look pretty (which is what a gun shop owner told me to do two years ago. LOL.).

      • Sometimes the loudest dissenters are the ones who aspire to be the most like you and realise they cannot. Just a thought 🙂
Unless you really feel motivated to answer them, a post , to the point, saying they don;t have to like your requests but do have to follow them… it is all about manners when all is said and done.
        Blessings, Susan x

      • LOL. I hadn’t thought about it like that, Susan. I’m not that egotistical, but I also asked politely twice, and i got a lot more assertive this last time. I am now being ignored, as if I have not stated that this is copyrighted work. Apparently people don’t realize they can be sued for that, no matter where they live.

I did take your advice and changed my About page to request that everyone now has to ask before reblogging. The few people that have been doing it for a long time are exempt because they’re not trying to harm me, it’s not my personal work they’re reblogging, but when it’s my original stuff and my personal photos, then yes, it’s going to upset me. For anyone to say “I did not know it was original.” pisses me off. I’m nothing, if not original. If I request that it be taken down, just remove it. It’s that simple. Ignoring me won’t get you results.

Thank you for your continued support. It means so much to me.

        Bright Blessings. 🙂
