Happy Independe…

Happy Independence Day!

“Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans, born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage, and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world. Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”  ―John F. Kennedy

*If you don’t happen to live in America, do me the favor and the respect of not judging a country by it’s President and/or political dealings, but by your interactions with individuals, citizens of this nation, who know that there are a lot of things wrong here, but that there are also a lot of things right here. I do not believe this country is perfect. In fact, I know it isn’t, but is it a freedom worth fighting for? Yes.

Unless you live here, unless you were born here, unless you are a citizen with a U.S. birth certificate, driver’s license, passport, credit cards, with a job that pays you U.S. dollars, sitting in judgement of what you do not understand is ignorant. It’s so very easy to judge, thinking you’re right when you’re sitting behind a computer in another country, believing you know what’s best for a country you only know minor things about thanks to CNN and the Internet, and playing around with conspiracy theories like a buffoon. It’s a whole other ballgame on American soil. Unless you want me to come to your country and tell you exactly what is wrong with it, and its people, do us all a favor and fuck off.*
