This one makes me think of Oscar Wilde and Portrait of Dorian Grey. The physical wounds (usually) heal quicker than the emotional ones. it is no surprise people go mad, the only surprise is that more don’t 🙂
Some people are just really good at hiding it, temporarily blocking it out, and/or repressing it.
